Holiday ready in a LBD!

It’s almost that time folks!! Less than 2-weeks left until the frenzy is over – admit it, you know its quite the frenzy. During the days and weeks leading up to the holidays most of us are attending some sort of parties, whether it is a ‘friendschrismukkah’ or a work holiday party you absolutely have to have that go-to dress to pull out of your closet. That’s what LBD’s are all about, am I right?! They are the ultimate closet staple for all your special events.

I wore this number to my boyfriend’s work holiday party (my company doesn’t have one because I live remotely, so I have to live through his- haha). The dress is a tad bit more on the conservative side, but perfect for a work related function. The leather bottom tones the lace down a notch which is definitely more my style. All hail a touch of leather in everything and anything! 🙂

Now to the big question, who has completed all of their Xmas shopping? I’ve been a total procrastinator, for legitimate reasons though. A big one is because my job is at its peak right now so it’s keeping me extra busy and too tired to shop (I know, can you believe it), but another is because I can’t stand the mall crowds – Ughhhh I’d rather see the dentist than fight the LA crowds during holiday nightmare. I’d say we can all be glad for online shopping!

Enjoy your week!

Casual Days

Sometimes you just gotta go casual, or almost all the time.

I have to be honest, as much as I love dressing up (and most of my posts have been some type of dressed up), there is nothing I love more than being casual and comfortable. You’ll find me in outfits like this one almost every weekend, but that’s what weekends are for, right? All of us have some type of job we have to report to every day of the week and for the majority that job requires you to get dressed up or at least not show up looking homeless. So, once the weekend hits all bets are off! 🙂 Don’t wash that hair, put your stretchy pants on, and binge on Netflix. Just kidding…that sounds quite nice but I almost never end up doing exactly that. I typically use my weekends to run errands, work on ze blog, and maybe squeeze in some yoga or the gym.

I bought this top at H&M and I LOVE it! It is not too thick and feels extra soft; it’s also longer in the back and has a slit along the sides for extra comfort. As you can see most of the colors are already sold out so I will likely snag the gray, beige, and black before they are all gone. I had to point out the sweater, but if you are curious about the rest of the outfit check out the bottom of this post.

One last thing…as I was sorting through my photos to use for this blog post, I got a great laugh. I thought I would share the not so glamorous world of blogging with you and provide you with a laugh as well. As some of you know, I dont have a professional photographer and my boyfriend takes all the pictures posted on this blog. While he is amazing and supportive, he has absolutely no photography experience and sadly for him I am a die hard perfectionist. Thus, he grudgingly ends up having to take what feels like a million shots until I can choose the top five or six that I can use for a post. Thank you B! During this photo shoot I tried to do the cliche “mid jump” photo for you all. Let’s just say it didn’t turn out so well and I had to give up on it. Below is one of my attempts (of the many I deleted). Hey, ya gotta be able to laugh at yourself!

Happy Hump day!

How to Rock the Monochromatic Outfit!

We definitely can’t doubt that the monochromatic look has been ‘in style’ all year round! What better time to rock it than this Fall! I pulled my look together by combining pieces that were already in my closet, no shopping required.

The thing is, we are creatures of habit, and I bet if you were to take a deep look into your closet right this moment, you would notice that you consistently veer to THAT color. Whatever THAT color might be (just don’t pick black), you likely have a variation of shades to put together a monochromatic outfit. For me, THAT color has been green (olive green to be more precise). I don’t know what it is this Fall season but I am loving everything green. Maybe because it relates so well to winter, or the fact that olive is a huge trend right now.

Nonetheless, follow the steps below to create the perfect monochromatic outfit:

1. Take a look at your closet and find which color combination you have most of (this was the way that I combined my outfit). You can also choose to start with one main piece, such as a jacket or skirt, and then work around that piece – This may require shopping if you do not have enough variations of one single color. Different textures and shapes are welcome, the main rule here is to keep the color consistent but feel free to play around with pattern or shade of color.

2. Once you have chosen either a few monochromatic pieces from your closet, assemble them on your bed and play around with ideas to see which combinations will form the best possible outfit. Fashion is about personality and comfort, thus you have to love your outfit before you walk out of that door to start your day!

3. Add accessories! This is where you can (and should) step out of your monochromatic color and add a personal touch to the outfit. I wouldn’t over accessorize, keep it simple because you want your outfit to take the lead – not your accessories.

4. Shoes – they do not need to match your outfit. I played it safe here with black as it is very easy to match with anything.

Good luck!!

Medallion Blouse

This long over-due post comes to you a few days (ok maybe weeks) late because life has been a bit on the hectic side. Now until the Christmas holidays is my busiest time at my full-time job so I have either been working on the weekends, or simply too exhausted to create a post. The good news is that this blouse is back in stock, so if you like it get it NOW!

I fell in love with this top when I saw it a few weeks back, it has a bit of a 70’s vibe. I combed through my accessories and found this awesome 60’s inspired watch by Zodiac Watches. It is by nature a men’s watch, but it looks amazing and pulls my look together perfectly.

Now, lets talk about my second favorite thing (next to fashion), FOOD. Who is excited for another great Thanksgiving this year? Although I don’t get to go home to my family, I am lucky enough to have my boyfriend’s family here in California – that alone is one of the many things that I am thankful for this year. Looking at the recent news happenings, I know all of us can be thankful for not only our families but the ability to live a peaceful life in a conflict free country. That is something we often take for granted, yet it can slip away at any moment in time.

Hope you all have a great week!

A Shirt Dress for any occasion

Who is ready for some fun this Halloween weekend? I can’t believe we are quickly flying into November and the holidays are upon us (my favorite time because it’s totally okay to just eat all the cookies and cakes you want). Also a time to remind ourselves how blessed we are – more on that later.

I spent this past weekend with my friend Melanie at the Digital Influencer lab presented by the FAB Counsel. I got to hear a great blogger speak, Elizabeth Keene from A Keene Sense of Style. That and getting to spend some time with my friend Mel (Something Dashing) were about the highlights of Saturday. On Sunday I cleaned my whole apartment, I literally went into maniac zone for about 3 hours. Does anyone else do that? I don’t particularly like to clean so I let it get quite messy for about two weeks or so and then I freak out and get OCD about cleaning every corner of the apartment. Only for it to get dirty again….and the cycle repeats – haha

My outfit is from the event over the weekend, I wasn’t sure what to wear that was both professional and stylish. Then I thought, bam, you can’t go wrong with a shirt dress! I’ve had this sweet number for a few months, and it is unfortunately sold out now, but not to worry…I found a few great shirt dresses out there! LOFT currently has some great one’s and they are on sale too.

Hope you all have a spooktacular Halloween! I may or may not be a skeleton.

Casual Friday with Madewell

Cas friday no title

I haven’t had a Friday post in a while, so I decided to create a casual outfit featuring Madewell to take you all into the weekend! Who doesn’t love Madewell!? It is the perfect brand to look towards when you want to find something that is both casual, comfortable, high quality, and classic.

Cheers to the weekend!

Leather skirts and pink walls

When it comes to fall, I love leather everything! Leather jackets, leather pants, leather skirts, leather tops! Leather or well designed faux leather, both work for me. 🙂

Naturally, I had to feature this leather H&M skirt for you as it is a great peace for work or a fun party. You can dress it with tights, boots, and a chunky sweater for the winter or you can dress it with heels and a blouse for the office. I’ve had the skirt for about 2 years and the color is perfect for fall! If you’ve noticed, maroon is still a big color for this season – not to mention it looks nice with this pink wall.

Since this exact skirt is no longer available, I found a few great options for you all! Wowza, there were so many great pieces out there that I couldn’t just pick one or two. My favorite is this A-line skirt in green. So gorgeous! J.O.A always has such great skirts, they are one of my favorite brands. If you prefer a pencil skirt, this one also by J.O.A is a great “little black leather pencil skirt”. It would look amazing with a white blouse.

I found two favorites in maroon as well, this pleated skirt is perfect. Or even better is this Blank NYC skirt with button details!

Also love this neutral color, it goes with everything and can be worn into spring. Last but not least, who can ignore a fun FRINGE leather skirt?? This skirt is playful and well priced for a fashion trend!

To pair with your future leather skirt, I picked out a few neck tie blouses. I’m loving those lately and they are everywhere! Another great piece to wear to the office either tucked into a skirt or a pair of pants/jeans. My favorite blouse is this one!

Now that the outfit planning and shopping is out of the way, what is everyone doing this weekend? I went to a Luke Bryan concert this past weekend with my close friend Melanie from Something Dashing. We had such a great time and Luke was total eye candy! This weekend I am planning on relaxing and I will be attending the Digital Influencer Lab in Santa Monica.

Hope you all have a great rest of the week!

Big Bear Lake, California

I recently spent the first weekend of October at Big Bear Lake, and as promised, I will share a little bit about my trip and recommend a few activities and restaurants for you all. First of all let me say, I had the BEST time of my life! Life was getting to a point where it was just too hectic and I needed to get away – if you live in LA you know what I’m talking about. I was itching for nature and quiet – that small town feel with absolutely no traffic and super nice people. Luckily, it exists about 2.5 hours outside of LA – yipee there is hope!

We arrived on Thursday 9/30 late in the night, which was sort of a bad idea/thrill at the same time. I didn’t realize that we needed to climb almost 7,000 feet in elevation in complete pitch dark. Think winding roads all the way up with fog and bad visibility. It was both spooky and exciting at the same time, luckily there is no snow at this time of the year so we survived. We received our cabin through an auction, but it is also available on Cool Cabins for daily rentals. I have nothing but amazing things to say about the cabin, it had more than enough room and the location was perfect! Better yet, Marcus the owner was so accommodating and easy to work with when booking. Below are a few pics:

On Friday we had a helicopter tour booked to see the community from above. I HIGHLY recommend this tour to new visitors, especially on your first day! Our tour was short but sweet, and can be found through the Helicopter Big Bear website if you look for “Tour Juliet”. They have different tour lengths and ranges, and their pricing is great.

Here is a quick clip I took of our tour, yes I am a little ADD on this ride (definitely wouldn’t make a good camera man) but I was so excited so I had to tape all around! Can you imagine the tour with snowfall? I definitely want to come back in the winter to do this!

On Saturday we had a few fun activities that are an absolute must as well! If you come up to Big Bear during the non-winter months, definitely go FISHING! It was so relaxing and so much fun! We used Lucky Bear Fishing Charters and they were absolutely amazing! You’ll mostly be fishing for rainbow trout. Mike and Trish are the boat owners and you can truly tell they love their sport. They even stayed an extra hour and a half out on the water for us! Some pics below:

As you can see, this post is quite different from my typical outfit posts. I have absolutely no make up on, I did not wash my hair that morning (hence the cap) and I’m totally dressed down. Oh, and don’t mind that booty that creeped into my last photo. Anyways, it felt awesome to escape for a little bit and change my wardrobe to comfy sweaters and UGG boots!

Another must-do activity while at Big Bear is the Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain. If you want to feel like a kid again, you totally need to go down this bob-sled style slide. For $6 per ride, you also get a nice view while taking the chairlift ride up.

Our Saturday night ended at Oktoberfest which was a ton of fun! Great food, beer, and music! If you are visiting Big Bear around late September or any time in October, this is another must stop. Unfortunately I had a bit too much beer and forgot to take any other photos beside the one below with my friend Kristine 🙂 Clearly were very happy about our full beers.

Last but not least, I have two food recommendations for you all. We only ate out at two restaurants and both were DELICIOUS!

Himalayan Big Bear – Had Indian and Nepalese food. They have great lunch specials

Grizzly Manor Cafe – Famous for their breakfast. The line can be rather long on weekend mornings but it moves quickly. Pancakes are a must because they are the size of your face!

Hope you all enjoyed reading about our Big Bear trip! What is your favorite weekend getaway in California? Share in the comments below, I’d love to hear!
